is through a common reading initiated on the forum Livraddict I released this book my Read Cell. Happy discovery that it was because Holdstock is really a great writer who possessed a beautiful pen we discover a shared fantasy literature, fantasy and science fiction. A real pleasure! And I think a great writer!

In a remote corner of Herefordshire stretches of Ryhope Wood, a remnant of an ancient forest back to the last glaciation, a wood so dense that it seems impossible to penetrate in- Beyond a certain limit. George Huxley, who settled with his family at the edge of Ryhope, for obscure reasons, is obsessed with the forest, the idea to explore its depths, an obsession that leads him to neglect his wife and her children. After his death in 1946, his two son find themselves Ryhope where, thanks to books he has left, the strange truth they are gradually revealed: in this corner of old England, it seems that the human psyche is capable of giving life to the peoples of the myths and legends. And at the bend of a trail or behind a tree, hide Guiwenneth, the beautiful Celtic princess, Jason and his Argonauts, King Arthur Pendragon and many other heroes still ...
+ + + + + + My opinion
frankly is with pleasure that I discovered Robert Holdstock . It is true that this book and its sequels, are almost part of the present conventional gender SFFF (brief, the worlds What imagination!) in any case it is part of "The ideal library of the imagination" of Cockroach Cosmic . Now I understand better why we take this book in such high esteem because he is truly magnificent. And I also understand why it does not appeal to many people because " The Mythago Wood" is not the last book of classic fantasy and formatted. Robert Holdstock gives us here a book to cross genres of fantasy, in that I almost joined Brian Aldiss in his preface where he says "The Mythago Wood is neither wonderful nor the fantasy or science fiction, but one kind alone .
Paper unconventional end very badly described by its back cover, but it is clear that it is not clear summary of a book so rich, I should. "The Mythago Wood" debut as a book of SF. Steven Huxley decided to return to his home in the family home. The father is dead, this dark character with whom the family did not know how to react to his delusions and other disappearances in the woods. Rest Christian, his brother, he has not seen for years. But now just returned unspeakable tension arises between them. Christian over time began to resemble the father, and because he followed the same path as this whimsical: study and explore this strange forest of what the Ryhope. Through his brother, Steven will learn more about the wood, until Christian disappears or rather fled to the forest. And time goes by ...
One day, Steven discovers a man and a dog at home. He does not speak the same language as him. This character is strange, as from another time ... And then later she is a woman who shows up at him. A woman who looks suspiciously like Guiwenneth this woman that his father knew, this woman that her brother loved this woman who is dead and buried in their garden. But yet she is alive and well right out of the woods with strange powers. This forest is almost a living, this place gives rise to the Scots mythagos, characters from the human unconscious, myths of all ages come true!
But one day, Christian and embark forcibly returned Guiwenneth. Left for dead, Steven survive as Christian Urscumug that famous, big-headed character boar. Steven took a great love for his Guiwenneth the Mythago from its spirit, will leave in the forest ... But I say no more.
If the book begins on a pile of childhood memories and family stories, is best left to weigh a mood, at times heavy, at times happy. The relational net is woven, and on that basis everything is built. Gradually, with the discovery of what are mythagos, is created an atmosphere close to science fiction. We are told what they are, how they appeared, etc.. Then drag on a sense of fantasy, by impressions left here or there, or special environments created by Holdstock. Fantasy, or wonderful, invites himself also once the characters from the past, legends, myth comes in. In short, all kinds of imaginary are there in one book, and only happiness. Really!
To complete the set, Robert Holdstock is gifted with a beautiful pen. Describes very well what is going on without falling for my taste, in an acute descriptionite. It develops wish Steven and his moods, and brilliantly describes the growing phenomenon Mythago. Entering a slow pace that lets many go into the special ambience of this book. And yet these same points, which are qualities for me are faults in others. Train may be too long to describe or explain things, missing Perhaps some rhythm and action focus on poetry and myth taking shape, Holstock alienates an audience there. But it would go next in my opinion an excellent book!
short, a wonderful book that conveys a certain beauty. The nature there is an enormous place, personified by the forest and Urscumug. A forest that you feel familiar with Robert Holdstock as sweat here and there naturalist information. A book to read and does not steal his title "Masterpiece of SFFF" .
